Sr. Charlotte

Sister Charlotte Roost shares a glimpse of herself ….

I was born in the small farming town of Mazon, Illinois, and moved to Cambridge, Wisconsin, at ten years old. I met some of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi when they came from St. Coletta of Wisconsin in Jefferson to teach religion classes to the children of my parish on Saturday mornings. Over time, I began hearing God’s call myself and became a Sister of St. Francis of Assisi.

I started sewing before I even went to school. My mother kept me busy making simple dresses for my dolls, and I have been sewing ever since. I became captivated by infinity scarves and how they lay when wearing them, so I began sewing them for Poverello Creations. The scarves are fun to make because they are started with a sewing machine and finished by hand. I can do the handwork while I watch television or travel. I have made hundreds of them over the years!

Now, I have expanded my interests into quilting and embroidery. I am fascinated by the many techniques that can be done with an embroidery machine, and with quilting, the possibilities seem endless! You may have seen my wall hangings and tote bags on the Poverello Creations website. These are produced in limited edition or “one of a kind.” It seems like as soon as I create one, it flies off the shelf! I am flattered and grateful that my passions have become a way to benefit the Sisters of St. Francis and our mission to serve Him.
