Celebrating the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi on October 4th is a time of great joy for Franciscans.Â
This year, 2024, is a special time for us, The Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, as we celebrate our 175th Anniversary as a Congregation, the first Franciscan group of vowed women religious in the United States.
Francis left us a vision of living the gospel message of love with joy and an open heart, welcoming all of creation in a circle of equality. Embracing all that is as Holy, he embodied this vision in ‘the Canticle of Creation,’ in the end even embracing Sister death.
His legacy lives on in each of us as we strive to welcome all, in the moments of encounter we experience with one another, the earth and all of creation. Francis urges us beyond our places of comfort, to become random acts of kindness in the lives of others; over and over again, until there are no longer strangers among us.
